Tomorrow I'm attending a special project, focused on childeren between
the age of four and eighteen. These childeren are pchysically or mentally
handicapped, or both. They often have a very low self esteem and find it
hard to communicate with others.

Almost every child loves to draw, they express themselves through
what they put on paper, a lot of childeren with certain handicaps are unable
to do so, and this is what this project is about.

Draw my story (Teken mijn verhaal in dutch) Is a project that let's the child play
the scenarist. Various artists will come to a specific school for handicapped childeren,
and talk to the child they are selected to. The artist will give the child special attention and let it
tell the artist what they would like to be, or do. Most allready came up with a certain
story, In most stories the child plays the main character. The artist will go home and
draw the scenario into a comic worth about three or four pages long.
A month later the artist will return and give the comic to the child.

This project has been going on for over 5 years now, with a lot of success too!
The childeren are so happy with the comics, it gives them something to talk about.
Something they thought of, put on paper for others to show.

Draw My Story now has over a few hundred dutch artists and it keeps growing!
I'm so happy I get to be part of this,
